NCHA Women

Lake Forest 4, Concordia Wisconsin 1

*The Lake Forest College women's hockey team outscored host Concordia University Wisconsin 4-1 Friday night. Forester senior goaltender Stacey Dierking stopped 32 of 33 shots on goal to earn the victory. Dierking made 17 of her saves in the final period and improved to 6-2-2 with a 3.02 goals against average and .893 save percentage on the season. The Foresters' first two goals of the night were scored by sophomore forward Michelle Greeneway, who leads the nation with 26 scores on the year. The Foresters are tied for the conference lead in points and can clinch at least a share of the regular season title with a victory Saturday afternoon at Marian University.

Adrian 7, Marian 3

*The Bulldogs took on Marian (Wis.) Friday night in the final weekend of regular season NCHA action. The Bulldogs and Sabres remained tied after the first period, but an Adrian four goal second period put the Bulldogs ahead for good as they won the game, 7-3. This win advances Adrian to 18-6 on the season and 11-6 in the NCHA. Seven different players scored for the Bulldogs, who were led on offense by Kelsey Kusch (1-2-3) and Alix Vallee (0-3-3).

St. Norbert 11, Finlandia 0

*St. Norbert College had a successful evening on its first Senior Night, rolling to an 11-0 win over Finlandia University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Resch Olympic Pavilion. The Green Knights (16-6-2, 11-5-1 NCHA) broke open a 1-0 game with six second-period goals. Ali Parker netted four goals, Lauren Roethlisberger had a four-point night (2-2-4) and Katie Aluia made 21 saves for the shutout.

 

NCHA Men – First Round Playoffs

#1 St. Norbert 5, Lawrence 0

*St. Norbert College began its journey in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoffs with a 5-0 shutout win over Lawrence University in the first game of a quarterfinal series at Cornerstone Community Center. The Green Knights (22-3-1), ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com Division III polls, need just a tie in Saturday to advance to the NCHA semifinals. The series opener was all St. Norbert, which held a 46-12 shots on goal advantage. Brandon Hoogenboom scored twice and David Jacobson made 12 saves for his sixth shutout of the season and the 16th of his career, now second in Division III history to former St. Norbert standout Kyle Jones' 25.

#2 Adrian 3, MSOE 0

*Junior forward Shelby Gray had been hampered by injury having missed eight games since Jan. 10, but broke out in the first game of the NCHA Harris Cup quarterfinals with two goals in a 3-0 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering. James Hamby posted his third shutout of the season and fifth of his career making 21 saves.

Marian 3, Lake Forest 2

*For the first time in three years, the Marian University men's hockey team claimed victory in the postseason, defeating Lake Forest 3-2 at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse in the quarterfinal round of the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs. Tyler Klein and Robbie Bailey scored to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead after two periods. The Forester scored at the 6:31 mark of the third, but Marian responded. Brett Campbell netted the eventual game-winner at the 11:58 mark to back the 44-save effort by Josh Baker in net.

St. Scholastica 1, Concordia Wisconsin 0

*Freshman Derek Sutliffe broke a scoreless tie with 5:37 left in regulation to give the St. Scholastica men's hockey team a 1-0 victory over Concordia University (Wis.) Friday night in game one of a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Harris Cup quarterfinal. Tyler Bruggeman made 20 saves for his first collegiate shutout.
