Marian University Women and Lake Forest Men
Lead Way as NCHA Names All-Academic Teams

With the 2022-23 season officially in the books, the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association has announced the members of the men’s and women’s NCHA All-Academic Teams today.

Marian University led the way on the women’s side, having 19 players from its roster earn spots on the squad. On the men’s side, Lake Forest College topped the field with 22 players.

In all, a near league-record 237 student-athletes were honored across the NCHA (the record of 242 was set last year), with the Sabres also establishing a new all-time high for an individual women’s team, breaking the former mark of 18 set by Lake Forest just last winter. On the men’s side, LFC’s 22 equaled its own record of 22 set in 2021.

One student-athlete is featured as unique four-time NCHA All-Academic honoree following a situation in which she was eligible for the award an additional season: Concordia University Wisconsin’s Emily Reimche.

Highlighting the way, 19 women’s representatives are earning the academic distinction for the third time in their careers, reaching the standard maximum (players need to sophomores to be considered). They are: Brooke Anderson (Marian), Stokli Ashcraft (Lake Forest), Lauren Askenazy (Lawrence), Cassidy Becia (Finlandia), Une Bjelland (Adrian), Cagla Celik (Lake Forest), Mak Cooke (Aurora), Karya Dean (Lake Forest), Melodee Eastman (Marian), Colleen Gilligan (Concordia Wisconsin), Gabrielle Hicks (Trine), Evi Johnson (St. Norbert), Jordan Moore (St. Norbert), Eve Parker (St. Norbert), Maeve Tallman (Lawrence), Makena Thompson (Trine), Gaby Turer (St. Norbert), Hannah Turnage (Lake Forest), Anna Van Hercke (Concordia Wisconsin)

For the men, there is a total of 23 student-athletes as three-time winners: Vaughan Bamford (Lake Forest), David Cohen (Lake Forest), Jack Jaunich (Aurora), Brad Jenion (Trine), Tyler Jensen (Lawrence), Clay Keeley (Aurora), Nate Keeley (Aurora), Adam Keyes (Aurora), Alessio Luciani (Adrian), Justin Meers (Trine), Scotty Nicholson (Lake Forest), Erik Nilsson (Lake Forest), Zack Olen (Lawrence), Maxim Plekhov (Lawrence), Carson Poulin (Lake Forest), Brendan Prappas (Trine), Christian Sabin (MSOE), Phil Schader (Finlandia), James Scott (Lawrence), Drew Shields (Lake Forest), Nic Tallarico (Adrian), Brett Tierney (Trine), and Nick Wiencek (Lake Forest).
