Marian’s Thorogood and St. Norbert’s Black
Earn NCHA Men’s Hockey Weekly Honors

Marian University senior Derek Thorogood (F - Calgary, Alta.) is the NCHA Men’s Offensive Player of the Week and St. Norbert College junior T.J. Black (G - Wheaton, Ill.) is the NCHA Men’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Thorogood is the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week after playing a key role in a pair of Sabres’ victories on the weekend, starting with an impressive 3-1 road win over No. 5 Stevens Point. In Friday’s contest, Thorogood netted the game-winner. A night later, at Stout, he set up the winner and also assisted on the final goal in a 3-0 shutout.

Black is the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week after recording an impressive 2-0 week that included victories over the No. 14 and No. 5 team in the country when St. Norbert got past Eau Claire and Stevens Point, with both wins coming on the road. Black made 37 saves against the Blugolds, allowing just one goal in the third period of a 3-1 victory. He followed that up with 30 more stops in a 2-1 victory over the Pointers a night later. He posted a .971 save percentage and a 1.00 GAA on the weekend.

2017-18 NCHA WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS

Kyle Brothers, Adrian
Brothers led Adrian’s 2-0 week vs NCHA opponent Trine University with seven points--all assists. In a 6-3 win at Trine, he dished five assists for the second-most in school history. In an 8-1 home victory over the Thunder, he tacked on two more helpers to move into first place in NCAA Division III with 13 assists and 15 total points. He moved into seventh place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 132 points (43g, 89a)--passing his coach, Adam Krug ‘12.

Cameron Cooper, Adrian
Cooper led Adrian blueliners with two goals (on three shots) during the Bulldogs’ NCHA sweep of NCAA newcomer Trine University, 6-3 on the road and 8-1 in home opener. In the seven-goal win on Saturday, he pounced on a Thunder turnover on a failed clear and wristed a shot from the blueline to give Adrian the lead for good at 2-1. Also had a plus-3 rating and helped the defense limit TU to 22.5 shots per game.

George Gerasimou, Lake Forest
Gerasimou finished with a career-high four points in Lake Forest’s 7-1 non-conference victory over Aurora at Johnny’s IceHouse West in Chicago on Saturday. He scored the only goal of the opening period before setting up one score in the second and two power play goals in the third.

Hunter Vorva, Marian
Vorva had a big weekend as the Sabres defeated a pair of WIAC opponents in No. 5 UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout. The Sabre net minder made 22 saves as MU upended UW-Stevens Point on the road only allowing one goal before recording his first shutout at Marain with 25 saves against UW-Stout. Vorva finished the weekend with a 0.50 goals against average and 47 saves to go with a .979 save percentage.
