DE PERE - St. Norbert College clinched its 14th Northern
Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season championship in the
last 18 seasons with a 7-0 win over Northland College in the
regular-season finale at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (21-3-1, 16-2 NCHA) earned the No. 1 seeding for
the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs, and will host Lawrence University in
a two-game quarterfinal series at 7 p.m. next Friday and Saturday.
Northland ended its season 4-21, 4-14.
Brandon Hoogenboom posted his first collegiate hat trick in the
win. The senior captain scored at 16:30 of the first period, then
finished a shorthanded chance at 8:45 of the third period.
Hoogenboom then scored his 10th goals of the season with a
power-play marker at 14:58 of the third.
Joe Perry scored his team-high 16th goal of the year with a
power-play goal at 6:24 of the first period to put the Green
Knights ahead 1-0. Erik Cooper finished a backdoor power-play
chance at 11:53 of the second, and Cullen Bradshaw scored at 12:49
of the second for a 4-0 lead. Pijus Rulevicius added the Green
Knights' other goal with a marker at 9:29 of the third period.
Perry added two assists for a three-point game, while Cooper added
an assist for a two-point game. Mason Baptista registered two
assists.
Mike Martin picked up the win in net for St. Norbert on Senior
Day, working the first 29:56 and making 11 saves. Tony Kujava
finished up the last 30:04 and made 10 stops to preserve the
shutout. Northland's Mason Riley made 45 saves, as the Green
Knights outshot the Lumberjacks 52-21.
St. Norbert was 3-for-7 on the power play, while Northland was
0-for-6.
