NCHA Men

#1 Adrian 4, #2 St. Norbert 1

*The Bulldog men's hockey team stared into a similar situation on Saturday as they fell behind 1-0 just 2:01 into the game at No. 2 St. Norbert. Last night, the Green Knights struck early in a win over the Bulldogs, but this game would be different. Adrian held St. Norbert off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game and themselves scored four goals in the second period of a 4-1 win. St. Norbert lost for just the second time at home this season and the Bulldogs got their first win over the Green Knights in their fourth try. Four different players scored goals and Scot Shackell made 35 saves. Duston Hebabrand (1-2-3) paced the winners.

RV St. Scholastica 5, Northland 0

*Five different players scored for St. Scholastica and Tyler Bruggeman made 23 saves to record the shutout in a 5-0 win over Northland. Keegan Bruce netted the eventual game-winner in the first period and the Saints added two goals in each the second and third periods to finish off the weekend sweep.

MSOE 5, Finlandia 1

*Sophomore Evan Wilson scored a hat trick to lead the MSOE hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Finlandia Saturday afternoon at the Houghton County Arena. Wilson scored two of the Raiders' (6-14-1, 5-9 NCHA) three power play goals on the day. The win completed their sweep of the Lions (2-17-1, 1-13 NCHA) after a 3-1 win Friday night. MSOE jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals in each of the first two periods, before piling on three in the game's final frame. Freshman Austin Campbell made his second-straight start and scored his second-straight win by allowing just one goal. He made 20 saves to even his record at 4-4-1 on the season.

Lake Forest 3, Lawrence 2 OT

*Bobby Barrett played the role of hero, netting the game-winning goal just 53 seconds in to overtime to top Lawrence University and help Lake Forest extend its winning streak to seven games in a row. The Vikings held a 2-1 lead headed into the third period on a pair of goals by Huck Saunders. The Foresters scored the only goal of the third period to set the stage for Barrett’s heroics.

Marian 7, Concordia 2

*Marian University broke open a 2-2 game after two periods with a four-goal barrage in the third period to take a 7-2 victory over Concordia Wisconsin Saturday night. Derek Perl scored twice and added an assist to lead the offense and Josh Baker added 31 saves for the win.

 

NCHA Women

#10 Adrian 10, Finlandia 2

*The Bulldogs rebounded from their tough loss at the hands of St. Scholastica Friday by overwhelming Finlandia University with 10 goals on 61 shots. Adrian dominated all 60 minutes of play as they improved their record to 17-4 on the season in 10-4 in the NCHA. Kelsey Kusch tallied four assists. Hannah McGowan and Alix Vallee each compiled three assists and senior captain Lauren Turner recorded two. Vallee set the single game record for points in a game by a defenseman for Adrian as she tallied five points on the afternoon. Kusch set the Adrian College single season record for assists as her four-assist performance brought her total to 22. Kusch also took over the national scoring lead as she brought her season point total to 40 on 18 goals and 22 assists.

Lake Forest 4, St. Scholastica 2

*The Lake Forest College women's hockey team defeated the College of St. Scholastica 4-2 at home on Saturday to join the Saints and Adrian College atop the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings. Forester sophomore forward Melissa Paluch scored a pair of goals for the second day in a row. Lake Forest senior goaltender Stacey Dierking finished with 23 saves and the home team outshot St. Scholastica 38-25 in the contest.

St. Norbert 3, Marian 1

*St. Norbert College swept the regular-season series with Marian University with a 3-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association win at Blue Line Ice Center. The Green Knights (14-5-2, 9-4-1 NCHA) topped the Sabres (4-13-1, 3-8) for the third time in nine days to take all three meetings this season. St. Norbert, with 19 points, is one point behind the NCHA tri-leaders of Adrian College, Lake Forest College and College of St. Scholastica with four games remaining. The Green Knights have a game remaining with each of those three opponents. St. Norbert was able to extend its unbeaten streak to 10 games (9-0-1) with a pair of third-period goals to snap a 1-1 tie. Laurel Hill scored 15 seconds into the third period off an assist from Zoe Kurth. The Green Knights tallied an insurance goal at 6:59 when Kurth scored off assists from Megan Crandell and Stephanie Slinde.
