2013-14 NCHA Men’s Harris Cup Playoffs

Saturday, March 1

ST. SCHOLASTICA 4, #2 ADRIAN 3

The St. Scholastica men's hockey team won its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) semifinal postseason game since 2007, defeating second-ranked Adrian College (Mich.) 4-3 Saturday night behind two goals from Alex Valenti, including the eventual game winner.

The Bulldogs struck first, taking a 2-1 lead after the first period. Scoreless through most of the second, the Saints made things interesting in the final 90 seconds, with Brandon Nowakowski (18:34) and Dylan Nowakowski (19:59) both finding the back of the net to make it 3-2. Adrian tied it quickly on Josh Ranalli’s 21st goal of the year, but Valenti’s ninth of the season at the 3:07 mark stood up the rest of the way to advance CSS to next weekend’s championship. Tyler Bruggeman played a key role with 41 saves.

#1 ST. NORBERT 6, LAKE FOREST 0

St. Norbert College got a five-point game from Cullen Bradshaw and cruised to a 6-0 win over Lake Forest College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup semifinal game at Cornerstone Community Center. The Green Knights (24-3-1), ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls, will face College of St. Scholastica at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at the Cornerstone for the Harris Cup championship. Lake Forest's season ended 15-12-1.

Joe Perry scored St. Norbert's first two goals, giving him a team-high 19 on the season. Perry then cashed in a power-play chance at 1:04 of the second period. The Green Knights pulled ahead 3-0 at 18:28 of the second period on Bradshaw's first goal of the night. NCHA Player of the Year David Jacobson needed just 14 saves to record his seventh shutout of the season and the 17th of his career.
