Schauer announced as NCHA Director of Communications

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Commissioner Jim Olson has announced Steve Schauer as the league's Director of Communications.

"I am excited to introduce Steve Schauer as the NCHA Director of Communications," Olson said. "His experience and passion for collegiate athletics was evident in the hiring process and he will do great things for the NCHA, our members, and the student-athletes in the conference. I am excited to see his ideas materialize and see the content he creates."

Schauer, a veteran in the communications field, previously served as the Director of Communications at Concordia University Wisconsin from 2011-20 leading all publicity efforts. During his tenure in Mequon, Wis., he made significant changes to the coverage of Falcon athletics. Schauer helped redesign CUWFalcons.com several times, implemented live multi-camera video broadcasts, initiated live statistics for all home events, grew social media efforts and helped increase content production for photography and videography. He also advanced the historical record keeping to ensure all Falcon athletics history was preserved. While at Concordia Wisconsin, Schauer hosted numerous conference tournaments and was also a member of the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), now College Sports Communicators, and served on two committees (Publications & Digital Design Contest and Membership Recognition Week). Both Falcons hockey programs are members of the NCHA.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to promote a nationally recognized hockey conference," Schauer said. "I'd like to thank Jim Olson and the entire search committee for this chance to highlight the achievements of hundreds of talented student-athletes, coaches, and teams. The NCHA is truly a special league that has produced national championship teams and some of the top hockey players in all of NCAA Division III."

Schauer served the NCHA on a part-time contract during the 2022-23 season helping update the league's historical records.

He currently serves as the Director of Community Engagement at St. John's Ministries in Green Bay, Wis. Schauer serves on the leadership team and oversees all communications, marketing, and fundraising efforts for the non-profit that helps those experiencing homelessness with shelter services and daytime resources.

Schauer was previously the public relations intern for the Green Bay Packers during their Super Bowl XLV Championship season in 2010. He worked closely with players, coaches, and media members. A native of New Franken, Wis., Schauer graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in exercise physiology. After graduating from CUW, he served two years as the Athletic Media Relations Graduate Assistant at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) in Monroe, La. While at ULM, he also earned his Master's Degree in communications. During his two years, Schauer worked closely with the Warhawks NCAA Division I football, volleyball, women's basketball, softball, cross country and golf programs handling media relations needs.

Schauer is married to Lindsay and the two have a son, Martin, and a daughter, Paige, along with a dog, Darcy.
