ANGOLA, Ind -- In their second face-off in as many days, the Trine University Women's Hockey team once again fell short to Aurora University at the final buzzer, with a closing line of 2-0 in this Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) matchup.
After an uneventful start, in which neither team found the net throughout the opening period and the majority of the second, the Spartans finally put a point in the scoring column with a goal in the final minute of the second frame.
Midway through the final period (ninth minute), Aurora added another goal to their total, closing the scoring for the game in their 2-0 victory.
Senior Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ont.) led the way for the Trine offense, finishing with six shots on goal, trailed closely by senior Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) and junior Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.), who each finished with five apiece.
Despite the loss, freshman goalie Abbie Bost (Chelsea, Mich.) played a fantastic game, saving 36 of Aurora's 38 shot attempts.
The Thunder are currently scheduled to next take the ice February 26th, when they will host Adrian College. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
