Men's Ice Hockey

Vorva ('20) signed by Cleveland Monsters of AHL

CLEVELAND - Hunter Vorva ('20) has been signed to a professional tryout (PTO) contract by the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey Leauge (AHL).

Vorva went 22-10-2 with three shutouts, a 2.15 goals-against average, and .928 save percentage from 2021-23 with the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) to earn a roster spot with the Kalamazoo Wings of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).  In his first season with the Havoc, he was named to the SPHL First All-Star Team and earns SPHL Goaltender of the Year.  In 16 appearances with the Wings this season, Vorva boasts an 8-5-1 record with a 2.57 goals-against average, .918 save percentage, and one shutout.

Prior to his professional career, Vorva played in 78 games at Marian with a record of 48-24-6, 2.00 goals-against average, and .928 save percentage.  Vorva helped lead Marian to its first NCAA Tournament berth in the 2017-18 season after setting a single-season program record with 20 victories.  He also posted a 1.93 goals-against average with 673 saves.  Vorva then went 13-9-4 in his second season with a 1.84 goals-against average and 696 saves.  This earned Vorva NCHA Player of the Year recognition and he also became the first goalie in program history to be named an AHCA All-American.  Vorva remains in the career record books as the program leader for save percentage, tied for first for shutouts with eight, second for wins and goals-against average, and third for saves.

The Monsters are the AHL affiliate to the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Vorva is the second Marian NCAA men's hockey alumni to reach the AHL after Dave Desander signed with the Iowa Wild in 2014-15.
