Three-Goal Third Period Lifts Men’s Hockey to Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Chris Sinclair (Fort Frances, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary (Fort Frances-SIJHL) ) scored right off a faceoff late in the third period to finish off a three-goal period to rally past Marian University (Wis.) 4-3 on Friday night in the MCHA/NCHA Thanksgiving Showcase at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.

The Sabres scored two minutes and 30 seconds into the game on a power-play goal. Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) tied the game with 1:36 left in the period to make it 1-1 at the first intermission. Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) and Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) had the assists.

Only one goal was scored in the second period as Marian's Brian Berger scored an even-strength goal halfway through the period.

The Sabres then made it 3-1 five minutes into the third period on a Chris Thompson goal. CSS responded just 35 seconds later as Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) scored to cut the margin back to one at 3-2. Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Daman Milsom (Kelowna, British Columbia/Mt. Boucherie Secondary (Westside-BCHL) ) had the assists.

Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) then tied the game with seven minutes left with a power-play goal. Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) and Austin Brown (Lathrup Village, Mich./Legacy HS (Woodstock-MJAHL) ) had the assists. With four minutes on the clock, Chris Sinclair (Fort Frances, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary (Fort Frances-SIJHL) ) won the face off and then put the puck in the back of the net for his first goal of the season and the game winner.

The Saints out-shot the Sabres 43-31. Jojo Jeanetta (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) improved to 3-0 with 28 saves. Josh Baker had 39 saves in the loss for Marian (5-2-2).

The Saints (4-2-1) will finish up the MCHA/NCHA Thanksgiving Showcase tomorrow afternoon when they face Lawrence University (Wis.) at 3:30 p.m. The Vikings fell to St. Norbert College 5-1 in the first game of the day today. Tomorrow's game can be heard live on csssaints.com.
