Lawrence University’s Askenazy and St. Norbert College’s Johnson
Pick Up NCHA Women’s Hockey Weekly Honors

Lawrence University senior Lauren Askenazy (F - Albuquerque, N.M.) is the NCHA Women’s Offensive Player of the Week and St. Norbert College senior Evi Johnson (G - Hailey, Idaho.) is the NCHA Women’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Askenazy becomes the first-ever Viking to claim NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors in program history, leading the way as Lawrence captured its first weekend sweep of an NCHA opponent. Askenazy posted a five-point (1G/4A) weekend as LU swept Finlandia University. In Friday’s 4-1 victory over the Lions, Askenazy was all over the ice, assisting on three of Lawrence’s four goals. In Saturday’s 3-1 decision over Finlandia, Askenazy scored the game-winning goal and assisted on Lawrence’s final goal. It marked the first time in the brief history of the women’s program that Lawrence posted a series sweep.

Johnson is the second Green Knight in the past three weeks to earn NCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors after a strong weekend between the pipes against Marian University. Johnson stepped up for the Green Knights as they swept the Sabres to improve to 11-0-1 in league play and maintain their lead atop the NCHA standings. Johnson was 2-0 for the week with a 0.50 goals-against average and .973 save percentage. Johnson made 14 saves in Friday’s 2-1 win at Marian, and then turned in a 22-save shutout in Saturday’s 3-0 victory to finish off the sweep of the home-and-home series. Her season totals improve to a .936 save percentage and 1.00 GAA.

2022-23 NCHA WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS

Karmen Anderson, Adrian
Anderson recorded two goals over the weekend in a split with Lake Forest. She finished +1 while recording five shots.

Sophie Goldberg, Adrian
Goldberg finished the weekend with 46 total saves in two games. She recorded her second loss of the year in overtime on Saturday after recording a shutout on Friday night. She allowed three total goals all weekend with a save percentage of .939.

Kayla Kolpitcke, Marian
Kolpitcke had a busy weekend in goal against No. 14 St. Norbert. Kolpitcke made 31 saves in the first game of the series before making a season-high 49 stops in the finale. She finished the weekend with a .941 save percentage.

Charlie Prior, Lawrence
Prior came up big Saturday in Lawrence’s 3-1 victory over Finlandia to complete a series sweep of the Lions. In her only action of the week, Prior made 18 saves to record her first victory of the season. With Lawrence holding a 2-1 lead in the third period, Prior made two big saves in one-on-one situations with a Finlandia attacker. The Vikings’ sweep of Finlandia was the first series sweep by Lawrence in the program’s brief history.

Hannah Turnage, Lake Forest
Turnage was busy but effective in goal for Lake Forest against Adrian over the weekend. After racking up 44 saves in a 4-0 loss on Friday, she turned away 51 of 53 shots on goal as the Foresters earned a couple points in the standings with a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday. For the series she posted a .941 save percentage and 2.95 goals against average against a team that entered the weekend scoring more than six goals per contest.
