Adrian Receives First-Round Bye in NCAA Championship

INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) will be represented in the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Championship by fifth-ranked Adrian College, as announced by the NCAA during its selection show.

The Bulldogs won the NCHA's Slaats Cup title on Sunday and as a result, received the league's automatic bid to advance. Adrian is one of 11 teams in the tournament and one of just three teams to receive a first-round bye. They will face the winner of Hamilton and Nazareth on Saturday, March 11 at 2 pm CT at Arrington Ice Arena.

Adrian is 26-3-0 overall and was 14-2-0 during NCHA conference play. It is currently riding a six-game winning streak and has the nation's second-best offense (5.30 goals per game), defense (0.81 goals allowed per game), penalty kill percentage (.959) and sixth-best power-play percentage (.286).

They are led by senior goalie Sophie Goldberg who was the Slaats Cup MVP and ranks second in the country with a .858 goals against average and a .955 save percentage (4th nationally). On the offensive side of the puck, the Bulldogs are paced by Jessica VonRuden who averages 1.70 points per game (4th nationally) and Une Bjelland who averages 1.69 points per game (6th nationally).

Hamilton (20-5-2) received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and compete in the NESCAC. The Continentals lost in the conference tournament championship to Amherst.

Nazareth (22-5-1) earned the UCHC's automatic bid after winning the tournament championship. The Golden Flyers are riding a nine-game winning streak.

Hamilton and Nazareth will play Wednesday at 7 pm at Russell Sage Rink (Clinton, N.Y.).
