Senior forward Kate Fanning scored a pair of third period goals and Lake Forest hung on for a 6-5 victory over the College of St. Scholastica at home Friday night. It was the first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game of the season for both teams.

Fanning broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Foresters the lead for good at the 7:20 mark of the final period. The score was set up by junior defenseman Jordan Trapp. The home team doubled its lead at 9:33 when sophomore defenseman Olyvia Opsahl assisted on junior forward Megan Lyke's first goal of 2019-20. Fanning then made it a 6-3 game at 12:43 with her second score of the night and season. Lyke picked up an assist on the play.

While it appeared Fanning's first goal would be the official game-winner, it turned out to be the second when the Saints rallied for a pair of scores in the final minute with an extra attacker on the ice.

Lake Forest held on, however, and junior goaltender Julieana Tarantino earned the victory and evened her record on the season at 1-1-0. She made 25 saves in the contest.

The dramatic third period was set up by comebacks for both teams in the first two stanzas. St. Scholastica scored first at the 9:25 mark of the opening period but the Foresters tied the game at 13:51 on Trapp's first goal of the year. Opsahl assisted on the home team's only tally of the first period and the score remained 1-1 until the second.

After the visitors regained the lead on a power play goal at 4:07 in the middle period, Lake Forest drew even again less than three minutes later on freshman defenseman Karya Dean's first career score. Sophomore Emelia Edmondson recorded an assist on the play. Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play with the Foresters' tally coming from senior forward Kristina Bellomo at the 10:59 mark. Dean and senior defenseman Julia Unterseher earned assists on Bellomo's first of the year. The Saints, however, tied the game with 1:34 to play in the period.

Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 72-30 in the contest.

The Foresters improved to 1-2-0 while St. Scholastica fell to 1-4-0. The same two teams will face off against in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
