Concordia’s Wanless and Northland’s Stuhr
Earn NCHA Women’s Hockey Weekly Honors
Concordia University Wisconsin junior Natasha Wanless (F - Madison, Wis.) is the NCHA Women’s Offensive Player of the Week and Northland College sophomore Gabby Suhr (G - Kasson, Minn.) is the NCHA Women’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Wanless put together an impressive tally of points to claim NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. In, all she recorded a league-high 6 points (4G/2A) in CUW’s sweep of Aurora University, starting with an assist just 14 seconds into the game on Friday. She closed out that victory by scoring twice in the third to take the 4-1 decision. On Saturday, Wanless gave the Falcons an early lead with a goal just 27 seconds into regulation before scoring the eventual game-winner on a power-play in the second.
Suhr tops a deep field of nominees to edge out NCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors. Suhr played a key role in the Jills’ sweep of Marian University, allowing only one extra attacker goal on Friday while recording the shutout on Saturday. She tallied a total of 55 saves over the weekend, which included 31 in her shutout win. She finished with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .982 save percentage as Northland picked up four important points in the league standings.
2018-19 NCHA WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS
Anais Aurard, St. Norbert
Aurard made 40 saves in 0-0 tie with Lake Forest on Friday and had 28 stops in a 5-1 loss to the Foresters on Saturday.
Amy Budde, Lake Forest
Budde had a goal and assist in the Foresters’ 5-1 victory over visiting St. Norbert on Saturday. She set up the only score of the opening period and scored early in the second, matching the third-highest total in program history with the 53rd goal of her career.
Ashley Hammes, Northland
Hammes had a big weekend for the Jills as she recorded an assist on the game winning goal on Friday and recorded a goal and an assist in the Jills’ win on Saturday.
Alexia Klaas, St. Scholastica
In two wins over Trine over the weekend, Klaas recorded a goal each game and added an assist in Saturday’s win. Her goal on Friday night proved to be the game-winner.
Maggie Mitter, Adrian
Mitter scored two goals and added three assists for a five point weekend against Finlandia.
Kelly O’Sullivan, Adrian
O’Sullivan scored three goals and added an assist in weekend sweep of Finlandia, including two power play goals.
Christina Pattengale, Concordia Wisconsin
Pattengale held Aurora to a single goal-per-game as Concordia Wisconsin swept the two-game series. The senior had 24 saves in the series opener and added 14 more in the finale.
Alexis Peterson, Marian
Peterson scored her first goal of the season in the opener of the series against Northland.
Jacque Rogers, Lake Forest
Rogers held St. Norbert scoreless for 105 minutes in a pair of games over the weekend. After making 18 saves in a 0-0 tie on Friday, the junior stopped all nine shots on goal she faced before giving way to a backup for the final period of Saturday’s 5-1 triumph. =The league leader in goals-against average and save percentage this season climbed into the Top 15 in the nation in the latter category.
Jessica Schlaff, St. Norbert
Schlaff tied a St. Norbert record with four goals in the Green Knights’ 6-3 win over UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday.
Lindsey Strainis, Marian
Strainis made 38 saves and posted a 3.14 goals-against average to go with an .864 save percentage.
Lexi Thomeczek, St. Scholastica
In a sweep of Trine over the weekend, Thomeczek stopped 60 of 61 for the weekend, including recording her third shutout of the season Friday night. Her 36 saves on Saturday were the second-most this season.
