DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team avenged an earlier loss this season to rival University of Wisconsin-Superior with 5-1 victory Tuesday at Mars Lakeview Arena. This is the first game the Saints have won at home against the Yellowjackets, as UWS was a perfect 6-0 against CSS at Mars Lakeview.

First Period
UWS had 16 shots on goal this period to St. Scholastica's seven. The 'jackets were able to slip on past CSS, and score with six minutes left in the period.

30 seconds later, the first penalty of the game was called on UWS for checking. With 15 seconds left on the powerplay and three minutes left in the period, Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored, unassisted to tie up the game. The 1-1 score would carry into the first intermission.

Second Period
With six minutes remaining and the score still tied, Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.) and Paige Forsman (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) assisted Lindsey Wright (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS (Team Alaska U19)) for the first her first goal of the season to take the lead at 2-1. The Saints kept up the momentum, scoring two minutes later as Anderson, assisted by Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS), scored her second of the game to make it 3-1. This two-goal lead for the Saints would carry over into the third period.

Third Period
On the first shot on goal of the period eight minutes in, Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Paige Forsman (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) assisted Sawyer to extend St. Scholastica's lead to 4-1.

The Saints were on two power plays in the third period and took full advantage of the second one. With over five minutes left on the clock, a penalty was called on the Yellowjackets for checking.

In 13 seconds, Hamann, with help from Anderson and Giorgia Battisi, scored her fifth goal of the season to strengthen the lead to 5-1. The 5-1 score would be the final.

Goaltending
St. Scholastica's Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) stopped 45 out of 46 shots she faced to earn her ninth win of the season. Superior's Sky Brown stopped 18 out of 23 shots.

Up Next
The Saints (15-4-4) travel to Lake Forest College (Ill.) this weekend to close out the regular season with a two-game NCHA series. The first game is Friday at 7 p.m.
