Lake Forest’s Spellmire and Concordia’s Pattengale
Earn NCHA Women’s Hockey Weekly Honors
Lake Forest College sophomore Olivia Spellmire (F - Bloomington, Minn.) is the NCHA Women’s Offensive Player of the Week and Concordia University Wisconsin freshman Christina Pattengale (G - Portage, Mich.) is the NCHA Women’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Spellmire scored a pair of goals and assisted another in both of her games last week to earn NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Foresters defeated No. 2 Adrian, 6-2, Saturday and Spellmire played a very key role. She scored the only goal of the first period while on the power play and then assisted the eventual game-winner in the second. She all but clinched the big victory with an empty net goal with 3:42 to play in the contest. She also netted a power play goal in the opening period, scored again 37 seconds into the second and added an assist later in the same period of a 9-0 triumph over Finlandia on Friday.
Pattengale came up big in her only action of the week to earn NCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors. She posted her first career shutout with a 26-save performance in a 4-0 win over Marian Tuesday. The freshman had 10 saves in the first period and added 11 in the final stanza to keep the shutout intact. She was also a big reason the Falcons killed off all six of Marian’s power play attempts in the game.
With an unbeaten 6-0-1 record and a big victory over the No. 2 team in the country in hand, Lake Forest makes a nice move up the national polls this week. The team makes the jump up to No. 6 in both, giving the NCHA a pair of teams in the top six. Adrian College joins them, dropping just a few spots into the No. 4 slot in both polls.
2015-16 NCHA WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS
Brooke Gibson, Adrian
Gibson saved 40 of the 45 shots she faced in two games giving her a save percentage of .889. She saved all 16 shots she faced in the game against Marian to record her first shutout of the season, also the first shutout for the team.
Katie Josephson, St. Scholastica
Josephson recorded five points in a series sweep of St. Norbert. She scored the opening goal and assisted the game-winning goal in Friday’s contest. On Saturday, she scored a pair of goals and once again assisted the game-winner.
Alex Stensland, Lake Forest
Stensland scored a shorthanded goal and added two assists for a career-high-tying three points in the Foresters’ 9-0 victory over Finlandia University on Friday. She was also +5 in the contest. Lake Forest defeated #2 Adrian College 6-2 Saturday night and Stensland scored a power play goal early in the contest and assisted on a score late. She was +2 on the evening.
Brittany Sticha, Concordia
Sticha had a pair of multi-goal games in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. She was especially productive on the power play, scoring three of her goals in those situations. Sticha added an assist in a 4-0 win over Marian Tuesday, giving her five points during the week for CUW.
Lindsey Strainis, Marian
Strainis made her first career appearance and first career start this week in goal for the Sabres stopping a total of 61 shots. She opened the week playing the final 25:23 against Concordia Wisconsin making 12 saves, while only allowing one goal. She then made her first start against No. 2 Adrian stopping 49 shots and holding the Bulldogs 0-4 on the power play.
Courtney Tyll, Adrian
Tyll recorded one goal and one assist in the 6-0 victory over Marian, it was the Bulldogs first shutout of the year.
