SNC Women; Aurora Men Shine

Welcome to Friday Night Action!

As the month of January rolls on, NCHA action continues to pick up in 2023. On this night, the St. Norbert College women made a statement, the Aurora University men stayed unblemished with a late goal, Adrian College’s Une Bjelland tallied a whopping eight points (5G/3A), and the MSOE and Marian University men tallied overtime winners!

Let’s start with the Green Knights on the women’s side. A night after shutting out No. 12 Aurora University by a final score of 2-0, SNC completed the sweep and moved to a perfect 8-0 in NCHA action with a 3-2 victory, racing out to a 3-0 lead before holding on to open up a seven-point lead in the standings. Brynn Waismann tallied 10 second-period saves and then added 16 more in the third (32 total) to help her team move to 12-3-2 on the campaign.

The Spartan men, ranked No. 7 this week, moved to 9-0-2 in league play and currently hold a six-point lead in the standings race, finding a way to defeat Concordia University Wisconsin after the Falcons erased a 5-1 deficit with four third-period goals. Jacob Brockman saved the day, netting the game-winner with just 22 seconds remaining to grab the 6-5 win and move to 13-3-2 overall. In the game, Adam Keyes became the first player in program history to reach 100 career points.

The Bulldogs’ Bjelland put on an offensive display, ending the evening with one of the most prolific scoring nights in NCHA history as well as claiming a pair of school records with her point (8) and goal (5) totals in a dominant 14-0 defeat of Lawrence University. Bjelland notched a pair of first-period goals and a hat trick alone in the third, contributing a pair of assists in the second period and a third helper in the final stanza.

On the men’s side, a pair of games went overtime. The Sabres grabbed a 1-0 victory on a goal by Jaymes Knee just nine seconds into the extra period to make a winner out of Colby Muise, who made 23 saves in the shutout. The Raiders also lit the lamp in OT, with Kevon Paganini doing the honors at the 1:57 mark to top Trine University, 2-1, to move MSOE to 6-3 in league play.
