Trine’s Prappas and St. Scholastica’s Steeves
Earn NCHA Men’s Hockey Weekly Honors
Trine University freshman Brendan Prappas (F - West Bloomfield Mich.) is the NCHA Men’s Offensive Player of the Week and College of St. Scholastica senior Zane Steeves (G - Red Deer, Alberta) is the NCHA Men’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Prappas earns NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors after playing a big role in Trine’s first-ever victory over a nationally-ranked opponent. Prappas led the way offensively for the Thunder in the weekend split. His two first-period goals Friday gave the team a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. In the final minutes of Saturday’s contest, he broke up the 0-0 tie in the final minutes of play giving Trine the 1-0 lead and the eventual 2-0 victory after the team added a late empty-netter.
Steeves is the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week after he and the Saints took three points from 13th-ranked MSOE over the weekend. MSOE, who entered the weekend unblemished and untied, was held to a 1-1 tie on Friday with Steeves making 31 saves. Then on Saturday, Steeves made a season-high 36 saves in a 3-1 CSS victory. Steeves made 67 saves on the weekend, while allowing just two goals to help him earn the weekly honor for the second time in his career.
2019-20 NCHA WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS
Josh Boyko, Aurora
Boyko shutout Lawrence 6-0 on Friday night, making 16 saves in his second shutout of the season. He then made 24 saves and allowed one goal (power play) as AU lost 2-0 to Lawrence on Saturday night. The second goal against was an empty net tally.
Connor Duncan, Lake Forest
Duncan had at least one point in all three of the Foresters’ games last week. After assisting on a pair of goals in Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to MSOE, he netted the game-winner in Friday night’s 2-1 triumph at Marian and set up a score against the Sabres in a 6-4 victory on Saturday. He was also +3 in the three games combined.
Zachary Heintz, Adrian
Heintz led Adrian with three goals, a plus-9 rating and 12 shots on goal in the Bulldogs’ home sweep of NCHA foe Finlandia. In Friday’s 7-0 win, he had a goal, plus-3 and eight shots. In Saturday’s 9-1 victory, he had career highs of two goals, two assists and four points. He had the secondary assist on what proved to be the GWG that gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead at the time, and later scored on the power play. He finished with five total points while being instrumental in the team’s power play which went 6-for-11 during the weekend.
Dean Hewines, Adrian
Hewines led Adrian blueliners with a plus-6 rating and tied for the D-man lead with three assists/points as the Bulldogs swept Finlandia, 7-0 and 9-1. In Friday’s win, he had the primary assist on two first-period goals on the way to a career-best three points with a plus-4.
Alex Mosquera, Lawrence
Mosquera collected his first career win and shutout in the same game as Lawrence downed Aurora 2-0 on the road this past Saturday. Mosquera made 23 saves to earn the victory in his first career start. Mosquera has now seen action in three games this season and has yet to allow a goal. His scoreless streak is now up to 123:16, and he has made 58 saves during that stretch.
Brett Young, Trine
Young played both of Trine’s games in net and finished the weekend with a split. On Friday, he turned in 33 saves despite recording the loss. Then on Saturday, he turned in his second shutout of the year as the Thunder came up with the 2-0 victory over nationally-ranked St. Norbert.
