Koepplinger Named SPHL Player of the Week

APPLETON, Wis. -- It was a dominating debut for former Lawrence University hockey standout Josh Koepplinger.

After his opening week as professional player, Koepplinger was chosen as the South Professional Hockey League Player of the Week.

Koepplinger made his debut with the Macon Mayhem on Feb. 28 and in three games this past week, the forward from Saginaw, Mich., scored five goals and collected three assists.

"This is a huge accomplishment for Josh and well deserved," Mayhem head coach Leo Thomas said in the team's press release. "Having this kind of start to his professional career and the spark he has given our club has made our team better. He has fit in very nicely with our team."

During his professional debut, Koepplinger scored the only goal for the Mayhem in a 3-1 loss to the Birmingham Bulls. Koepplinger then scored twice in a 4-3 win over the Fayetteville Markmen this past Friday. He followed that by setting a franchise record with five points on two goals and three assists in a 5-1 win over the Marksmen on Saturday.

Koepplinger is coming off a season with Lawrence that saw him lead the team with 10 goals, 14 assists and 24 points. He earned All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association honors.
