Adrian’s Cusin and Marian’s Vorva Grab
Final NCHA Men’s Hockey Weekly Honors

Adrian College sophomore Ryan Cusin (F - Westland, Mich.) is the NCHA Men’s Offensive Player of the Week and Marian University sophomore Hunter Vorva (G - Kalamazoo, Mich.) is the NCHA Men’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Cusin nets NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Bulldogs to their third straight “Peters Cup” trophy by claiming the regular-season title with victories over MSOE and Concordia Wisconsin. He started the weekend with an assist as Adrian blanked the Raiders, 6-0, and then topped it with a brilliant three-goal outing in the 4-1 victory over the Falcons in the season finale. He recorded eight shots in the two games and the hat trick marked the first of his career.

Vorva is the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after helping the Sabres extend their win streak to seven in a row. He had another big weekend, posting a 1.00 goals-against average with 61 total saves to record a .968 save percentage as Marian defeated St. Scholastica and Northland. In the win against CSS, Vorva made 34 saves and set a single-season Marian men’s hockey record with his 17th victory of the season. He then posted his fifth shutout of the campaign the next night, stopping all 27 shots he faced against the LumberJacks.

2017-18 NCHA WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS

Evan Cline, Lawrence
In his only action of the week, Evan Cline was superb in net and helped Lawrence clinch a NCHA playoff berth with a 1-1 overtime tie at Northland. Cline stopped 31 shots, including six in overtime, as Lawrence secured its playoff berth.

Nick Guiney, Concordia
Guiney had three points in the Falcons 4-3 win over Trine Friday night. He scored two goals, including the game-winner five minutes into the second period. Guiney also added an assist as the Falcons secured home ice for the opening round of the Harris Cup Playoffs.

Dean Hewines, Adrian
Hewines had his first three-point weekend of his college career, helping the Bulldogs clinch the Peters Cup trophy for the third season in a row with wins over MSOE (6-0) and Concordia-Wisconsin (4-1). He also had a plus-3 rating. He scored his first career goal to give Adrian a 2-0 lead at the time and later added an assist against the Raiders on Friday. The next day, he assisted on the credited game-winning goal against the Falcons.
