A Night of Thrillers!

A Night of Thrillers!

What a Friday night it was all across the NCHA!

The big Adrian College/St. Norbert College battle was a classic. Both teams came in ranked No. 1 in the country, with the Bulldogs (No. 1 USCHO.com poll) topping the Green Knights (No. 1 D3hockey.com poll) by a final score of 3-2 in OVERTIME on a goal by Cory Dunn to complete the comeback from being down, 2-0, in the second period.

Lawrence University jumped out to a 4-0 lead on No. 15 St. Scholastica and held on, 4-3, to snap the Saints win streak at 10 games behind 39 saves by Greg Procopio.

Trine picked up its first NCHA win with a 4-2 decision over Finlandia. Some history for Marian University, as Gianni Mangone became the all-time leading goal scorer for defensemen (28) in program history with a pair of goals in the Sabres 5-1 win over Northland College.

Some quality goaltending in other games, as Nick Malvin made 27 saves to lead Concordia University Wisconsin to a 5-0 shutout of Aurora University. In the 1-1 draw between MSOE and Lake Forest College, Zach Woodman (24 saves/MSOE) and Louis-Philippe De Courcy (36 saves/LFC) combined for 60 stops in a 1-1 draw.

On the women’s side, Adrian College got a goal from Brooke Schembri to defeat St. Norbert College, 1-0. Northland College came up big late, with Michaela Isetts-Williams lighting the lamp with less than 2 minutes to play to get a 2-1 win over Trine and Breanna Thomson made 22 saves to backstop the Falcons to a 1-0 victory over Finlandia University as well.
