The NCHA Harris Cup and Slaats Cup heated up in a big way Saturday night, with all five teams advancing in the postseason by posting a shutout victory.

The winners on the men’s side: Both No. 1 seeds advance!

The NCHA championship will pit the Bulldogs and the Green Knights against each other for the fourth season in a row, again being hosted by Adrian College.

Adrian posted a big 9-0 victory, highlighted by an unbelievable outing by Taylor McCloy. McCloy finished with three goals and three assists, including the game-winner. He had his hat trick by the end of the second period, while Kevin Entmaa (18) and Dillon Kelley (4) combined for 22 saves. The win extended the team winning streak to 16 games in a row.

St. Norbert College secured a 3-0 win, jumping out to a 1-0 lead just 35 seconds into the game by Steven Phillips to set the tone. The advantage grew to 2-0 before the end of the first period and T.J. Black needed to make just 12 saves to secure the shutout.

On the women’s side, the top seeds held as well, with No. 1 Adrian, No. 2 Lake Forest and No. 3 St. Scholastica all advancing to championship weekend next week.

Adrian took control of a close game with a pair of third-period strikes, claiming the 3-0 victory over Marian with a 44-15 advantage in shots and 15 saves from Kate Turner.

Lake Forest jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period and then put the hammer down in the second, adding five more to win going away, 8-0. Olivia Spellmire (2-1-3), Kate Fanning (2-0-2) and Amy Budde (0-3-3) paced the offense, with Jacque Rogers accounting for 16 saves in goal.

St. Scholastica dealt with a pesky Concordia Wisconsin squad in the first round, taking control of a 0-0 game at the start of the third with goals from Rachel Anderson midway through the period and an empty-netter by Giorgia Battisti to finish off the Falcons and advance.
