Marian and Lake Forest Men; Adrian and St. Scholastica
Women Lead Way as NCHA Names All-Academic Teams
With the regular season officially having reached its conclusion this past weekend, the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association has announced today the members of the men’s and women’s 2017-18 NCHA All-Academic Teams.
Marian University and Lake Forest College led the way on the men’s side, each having 16 players from its roster earn spots on the squad. For the Sabres, the top spot is a repeat from a season ago. On the women’s side, Adrian College and the College of St. Scholastica topped the field with 10 players each. In all, 176 student-athletes were honored across the conference.

Highlighting the way, 18 men’s representatives are earning the academic distinction for the third time in their careers, reaching the normal maximum (players need to sophomores academically to be considered). They are Petter Bulling (Northland), Blake Butzow (Adrian), Dylan Dailey (MSOE), Kale Derkson (St. Scholastica), George Gerasimou (Lake Forest), Chris Hinrichs (MSOE), Charlie Izaguirre (Lake Forest), Billy Kent (Lake Forest), Curtis Lewington (Marian), Travis Marit (Concordia), Cole McCaig (Marian), Kevin O’Hara (St. Norbert), Jared Pilet (Concordia), Tony Pnewski (Aurora), James Ring (MSOE), Austin Rust (Adrian), Zachary Simpson (MSOE) and Brett Wagner (MSOE).
One men’s student-athlete is featured as the unique four-time NCHA All-Academic honoree following a situation in which he was eligible for the award an additional season: MSOE’s Zach Woodman.
For the women, a total of 12 student-athletes are three-time winners: Chloe Bachman (Concordia), Melissa Bodine (Lake Forest), Amanda Broman (St. Scholastica), Amanda Brunges (Lake Forest), Ellie Deans (Marian), Kayla Griffith (Lake Forest), Lexi Holman (Concordia), Rose Krasofsky (Adrian), Brandi Malwitz (St. Scholastica), Abby Sawyer (St. Scholastica), Selena Stromer (St. Norbert) and Kristi Zink (Adrian).
