The 2018 AHCA/CCM Division III Men's All-Americans were released at the Frozen Four banquet on Thursday night.

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association put on a dominant showing on the Western side, with NCHA student-athletes earning five of the six spots on the First Team and nine (of 12) All-American distinctions overall.

In addition, five different schools were represented, as St. Norbert College (G T.J. Black | D Sean Campbell | F Tanner Froese) had THREE first-team honorees to extend its record to 21 years in a row with at least one student-athlete on the top squad.

Adrian College (D Cory Dunn | F Mathew Thompson) helped the NCHA to those five spots on the First Team.

Taylor McCloy (F) joined his Bulldog teammates with second-team status. Three other NCHA programs landed second-teamers for quite a historic haul by the NCHA - the most selections the league has ever had prior to 2018 was six, done on two occasions (2017/2015).

Black, Campbell, Froese Named First-Team All-Americans

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - St. Norbert College junior goaltender T.J. Black, senior defenseman Sean Campbell and senior forward Tanner Froese were honored as All-Americans on the Division II-III CCM American Hockey Coaches Association All-America Team, announced at the Frozen Four's pre-tournament banquet.

All three were first-team All-America selections. Black was named a first-team All-American for the second consecutive year. Campbell is a first-team choice after being a second-team pick a year ago. The All-America honor is the first for Froese.

St. Norbert is the first team in Division III to have three first-team AHCA All-America selections in one seasons since UW-Eau Claire in 2013. St. Norbert now has 34 first-team AHCA All-America selections, and has had at least one first-team All-America honoree for 21 consecutive years - extending its Division III record.

Black, a Wheaton, Ill,. native, was a first-team All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association selection and the MVP of the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive season. Black is second in NCAA Division III in goals against average at 1.37 and is third in save percentage at .941. He owns a 25-3-1 record this season, matching Kyle Jones’ school record for wins in a season.

Campbell, a Holt, Mich., native, was also a first-team All-NCHA selection for the second consecutive year. Campbell is third on the Green Knights in assists and has two goals and 15 assists for 17 points.

Froese, an Estevan, Saskatchewan native, was a first-team All-NCHA choice. Froese currently leads the Green Knights in scoring with 29 points, posting 12 goals and 17 assists.

At the banquet, St. Norbert junior defenseman Clay Van Diest was the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award for Division III men's ice hockey. Van Diest, who has the highest grade point average of the student-athletes competing at the Frozen Four, holds a 3.95 grade point average while majoring in English education.

Bulldogs Trio Named to the AHCA All-America Team

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.--Three Adrian College men's hockey student-athletes--seniors Mathew Thompson and Taylor McCloy and junior Cory Dunn--were named on Thursday to the CCM/AHCA All-America Team during the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship banquet. Dunn and Thompson made the first team while McCloy was selected to the third unit, as these awards were voted by members of the American Hockey Coaches Association.

Dunn (Trenton, Mich. / Austin Bruins, NAHL) is a three-time AHCA All-American, repeating his 2017 first-team recognition after being named to the second team after his 2016 freshman season. An assistant team captain, Dunn was the Bulldogs' top playmaker with 27 assists--tied for second by Division III defensemen--among 30 points. He needs three points to join the 100-point club for a career.  He becomes the first Bulldog to garner three All-America certificates from the AHCA. 

McCloy (Keswick, Ontario / Aurora Tigers, OJHL) led the Bulldogs with career highs of 24 goals and 38 total points. Overall, the forward had six game-winning goals, six power-play goals and three short-handed goals, which are first, tied for fourth and first in the NCHA. He scored nine goals and four assists during Adrian's five postseason games to give him 51 goals and 59 assists for 110 points in his 99-game career. 

Thompson (Bolton, Ontario / Trenton Golden Hawks, OJHL), the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year and Adrian captain, amassed 34 points on 16 goals and 18 assists in 30 games played this season, including eight points in five postseason contests. Four of his goals had been game-winning goals and five of his assists came on game-winning goals, including twice in the postseason. The two-year team captain has been particularly effective on the power play, having scored eight times with the man-advantage--good for first in the conference in that category. The center surpassed 100-milestones for both total points (128) and games played (105) earlier this season.

Adrian College tied University of New England and St. Norbert College for the most All-Americans from one school. Dunn, McCloy and Thompson all made All-NCHA, while McCloy and Thompson are first-time All-America honorees.

The trio brings to 15 the number of Bulldogs who have been accorded AHCA All-America status a total of 19 times--all since the program's founding in 2007-08.

Barker lands first All-American selection in Men's Hockey program history

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Concordia University Wisconsin freshman defenseman Braydon Barker made quite a bit of history during the 2017-18 season. Barker, who during the season set the single-season assists record, became the first Falcons player to receive a major conference award a few weeks ago when he was chosen as the NCHA Freshman of the Year.

On Thursday, Barker added another first to the CUW Men's Hockey program when he was selected as a Second Team AHCA/CCM All-American, the first All-American in program history.

The AHCA/CCM All-American selections are split into regions, with Barker being a Second-Team selection in the West. The NCHA, arguably the top conference in Division III Men's Hockey had nine players selected to either the First or Second Team. Barker was the only freshman selected in the West.

Barker (Red Deer, Alberta) had one of the most productive seasons in Falcons history in terms of points as serving as the Falcons top blueliner. He recorded 24 points, including the program-record 18 assists. In addition, Barker posted a +18 plus/minus rating. The rookie defender helped CUW hold opponents to 2.55 goals per contest.

The Falcons had their best season in program history in 2017-18 and the addition of Barker's All-American honor only adds to it. CUW won 16 games, most in program history, and clinched a home playoff series in the Harris Cup Playoffs. The Falcons finished third overall in the league standings, behind only Adrian and St. Norbert, two teams who spent most of the season near the top of the national rankings.

King chosen for All-America hockey squad

King (Waunakee, Wis.), a senior forward, was a second-team selection and is the first player in Lawrence history to earn All-America honors.

"We are very proud of Lane and for becoming our program's first All-American," Lawrence coach Mike Szkodzinski said. "He has grown tremendously both on and off the ice over the past three seasons, and we couldn't be happier for him. He has worked extremely hard and deserves the honor. We know this will inspire our returners and future players to match or surpass his accomplishments. He has definitely left his mark on LU hockey."

King piled up 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points this season, and he led the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association at 1.37 points per game. King, the first Lawrence player to lead the NCHA in scoring, ranked 22nd in the nation in points per game. He was 34th in the nation at 0.78 assists per game and 36th at 0.59 goals per game.

An All-NCHA selection, King was very effective on the power play and picked up 43 percent of his points during the season on the man-advantage. King had eight power-play goals to go with eight assists for 16 points. King was eighth in the country and led the NCHA at 0.30 power-play goals per game. He also led the NCHA at 0.59 power-play points per game.

King had one of the finest offensive seasons in Lawrence history as his 37 points is second on the season list. The 21 assists ranks third, and the 16 goals is sixth on the Lawrence season list.

"Lane is going to be a tough piece to replace, but he has certainly raised the bar for all future Vikings," Szkodzinski said. "We have consistently talked about the foundation of our program and how important that is for our continued growth. Lane has strengthened that foundation."

King, who earned NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors during the season, collected his first career hat track at Concordia Wisconsin on Jan. 6. He collected at least one point in 21 of 27 games this season and posted 10 multi-point games. King had a career-best four points in Lawrence's 6-2 win over Trine on Nov. 4.

King ends his Lawrence career with 24 goals and 48 assists for 72 points. King, who played his freshman season at Finlandia, has 30 goals and 51 assists for 81 points for his collegiate career. King's 48 assists ranks 10th in Lawrence history, and he is 11th with 72 points. The 24 goals ranks 20th in Lawrence history, and King ranks eighth with 12 power-play goals.

Stewart named second team All-American by AHCA

GLOUCESTER, Mass. - For a second straight year, Marian University men's hockey has had a skater named an All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). 

Hunter Stewart (Calgary, Alta.) was named a second team All-American for the West region announced the AHCA making him the third Sabre to earn All-American status after Dakota Dubetz earned the award in 2011 and Gianni Mangone last season.  Stewart closed out his career as a Sabre strong leading the team in scoring with 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points in 29 games.  The Sabre forward ranked third in the NCHA for total points and was second in the conference for assists and closed out his career tied for second in program history with 80 assists.  Stewart was named the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the D3Hockey.com Team of the Week once this season.  This season he also had nine games where he recorded multiple points with a pair of multi-goal games.  Stewart adds this All-American accolade after being named All-NCHA for the first time in his career and earning a spot on the All-NCHA Academic team for the second time.

Stewart recently signed with the Evansville Thunderbolts of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) becoming the fourth Sabre in the past three seasons to play professionally.  In his first professional game, Stewart completed the rare feat of netting a hat trick in his professional debut against the Mississippi Riverkings, an accomplishment that has only been accomplished in the National Hockey League five times.
