Wildcats drop non-conference game to Falcons

ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Catherine returned to competition on Friday evening hosting Concordia University-Wisconsin at Drake Arena in their first regular-season contest of 2020. The Wildcats were defeated by the Falcons 5-2 in the first game on the non-conference series.

Concordia-Wisconsin found the back of the net first in the game scoring late in the period to take the one-goal lead. The Falcons were on the board again scoring a delayed penalty goal in the first minute of the second period and scored their third goal just a minute later at 2:04 off the clock.

Rookie Marie Reimer scored both goals for the Wildcats with her first assisted by sophomore Abbie Wetzel-Edstrom just 20 seconds after the Falcons third goal. Reimer scored her fifth of the season and second goal with a pass from first-year Nicole Maddox after winning the draw and getting St. Catherine within one goal at 5:16 into the period. Reimer is now tied with sophomore Sophia Gorski in second on the team for goals this season at five.

The Falcons scored two additional goals in the game with their fourth with just under eight minutes remaining in the second period and the final goal with five minutes to play in the third period.

Reimer led the Wildcats on the shot chart with 5 followed by Gorski and rookie Laura Denchfield both recording 3. The Wildcats won the shot count in the loss tallying 27 to the Falcons 23.
