Third-period rally lifts Saints over Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring four unanswered goals in the third period, the College of St. Scholastica claimed a 5-2 victory over host Augsburg University in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 1-0 after one period, Augsburg scored twice in a 5:09 span midway through the second period to take the lead.
Nate Flynn (SR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) scored on an unassisted blast at the 10:32 mark of the second period, claiming his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Flynn is tied for the lead among MIAC players in overall statistics in total points (15, eight goals, seven assists), and his eight goals are second-most among league players.
Jason Krych (SO, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) scored his second goal of the season at the 15:41 mark, assisted by Jake Larson (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Gunnar Goodmanson (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS).
• St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by a 40-35 margin, including a 17-9 advantage in the first period. Nick Schmit (JR, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) had 35 saves in goal for the Auggies.
• Flynn had six shots on-goal to lead the Auggies, while Matt Nehls (FY, Boulder, Colo./D.C. West HS) and Alex Rodriguez (JR, Miami, Fla./Shatuck-St. Mary's (Minn.) HS) had four shots each.

FOR THE FOES
• Parker Mismash scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 4:54 mark of the third period, and added an assist for a two-point night. Cole Golka, Kyle Star, Mark Whiteley and Nolan Ross also scored goals for the Saints.
• Nick Trenciansky had 33 saves in goal for St. Scholastica.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break, and returns to MIAC play with a series on Jan. 5-6 against Hamline.
