Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Mary-Clare Couillard

Hamline opens 2020 with 7-0 win over St. Norbert

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The No. 10-ranked Hamline women's hockey team got the second half of their schedule off to a good start on Friday evening, defeating St. Norbert 7-0 at TRIA Rink.

The senior duo of Jordan Hansen and Bre Simon led the Pipers with three points each and sophomore Jaela O'Brien made 12 saves to compile her second shutout of the year. O'Brien is now 5-2-1 on the year, winning in each of her last four starts.

Overall, the Pipers had an impressive offensive showing, outshooting the Green Knights 46-12.  The seven goals posted by HU was the most of any game this season and the most since they defeated Saint Mary's 7-1 last season on February 9.

The majority of the first period was scoreless, until senior Bre Simon broke it open for HU, scoring with about a minute left in the frame. Simon was able to tip in a passing sequence from seniors Zoey Lobejko and Hansen to put the Pipers up 1-0.

HU's offense really got going in the second period, scoring three different times to put a comfortable distance between themselves and the Green Knights. Hansen had two of those goals, scoring the first and the third goals of the period.  Junior Madison Kolbow scored in the middle of Hansen's goals with Sophie Rausch picking up the assist.

Hamline kept up the intensity in the third period, scoring three more times. Simon started the scoring with an unassisted goal 13 minutes into the period. A little over three minutes later, junior Taylor Henthorne scored her first goal of the season, being assisted by Michaela Arnold and Olivia Arkell. Junior Taylor Curtis had the final goal for HU, scoring her first on the year, being assisted by Maddie Duca.

The Pipers will continue with their schedule, taking on another NHCA opponent tomorrow, January 4, hosting Lake Forest at 3:00 p.m. If you are unable to make it to the rink, follow along with live video and stats, using the links on the schedule page.
