Pipers defeat Lake Forest 3-2 on Saturday afternoon

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The No. 10-ranked Hamline women's hockey team (9-3-1) defeated Lake Forest (5-6-1) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at TRIA Rink, stretching their current win streak to five games.

Junior Taylor Henthorne got the scoring going early for the Pipers, giving HU the lead after less than two minutes of play. Teammate Elizabeth Valley broke up a Lake Forest play and found Henthorne who took it down the ice herself and beat the goalie to help Hamline get some early momentum.

With the goal Henthorne has now scored in back-to-back games and has four total points on the year. The assist for Valley was her first collegiate point.

The Pipers added another goal early in the second period with first year Madison Davis finishing off a pass from seniors Jordan Hansen and Bre Simon.

The Foresters would get a goal back before the end of the period, however, as senior Lexi Morgan got one past sophomore Jaela O'Brien on a power play at 13:48.

In the third, Lake Forest tied it up at 8:25, with Julia Unterseher finding the back of the net. With about four minutes left in the game it was first year Sophie Rausch who would get the game-winner for the Pipers, finishing off a play right in front of the net. Davis and junior Oliva Arkell tallied assists on the play.

HU's defense only allowed the Foresters to take one more shot in the game, which went wide, sealing the 3-2 win for the Pipers.

Rausch currently leads the team in goals with seven, which is tied for the most in the MIAC. Simon and Rausch are tied for the most points in the league with 16 on the season so far.

Hamline held a 45-18 edge in shots throughout the game and also won 78% of the faceoffs.

O'Brien had 16 saves in net for Hamline, including making seven saves in the final period. With the win, she improves to 6-2-1 on the season, winning her fifth straight game.

Hamline will have a weekend off before returning to conference play against Saint Benedict on January 16 and 17. The series will start in St. Cloud with a 7:00 p.m. game on the 16th, followed by a 5:00 p.m. game at TRIA on the 17th.
