Offensive outburst leads Hamline past Concordia Wisconsin

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline women's hockey team (1-1-1) sped past Concordia Wisconsin (0-4) on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Falcons 6-1 at TRIA Rink. The Pipers scored two goals in the first two minutes of the contest and did not look back from there to capture their first win of the season.

First year Michaela Arnold started off the scoring for HU, scoring a little over a minute in. She was assisted by fellow first year Madison Davis. The play was the first collegiate points for both of the rookies.

Less than 40 seconds later, junior Olivia Arkell added to the Piper lead, finishing a play from senior Jordan Hansen and junior Madison Kolbow. Hamline would take a 3-0 lead into the first break, with Arnold adding her second collegiate goal, which was assisted by junior Taylor Henthorne and Davis.

Concordia Wisconsin responded with a goal of their own in the second period, making it 3-1. The Falcons could not keep the Hamline offense down for long, however, as the Pipers scored 17 minutes into the period to reclaim their three-goal lead. This time it was sophomore Molly Garin who found the back of the net, assisted by junior Katie Carlson and sophomore Barret Boyer.

The Pipers kept up the pressure in the third, scoring two more times before regulation time expired. First to score in the period was Arkell, being assisted by first year Sophie Rausch. Rausch assisted the final goal as well, with first year Taylor Stefan finishing the play. Garin also picked up an assist on the goal.

Goalkeeper McKenna Hulslander got her first start of the season in net in the game, finishing with 12 saves to earn the win.

The Pipers begin conference play next weekend, as they will face Augsburg. The first game of the series is on Friday, November 15 and will be played at the Auggies' home rink in Minneapolis. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
