Augsburg scores opening weekend split with 6-1 triumph

MINNEAPOLIS -- Bridget Wagner (SO, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS) scored twice in the opening 4:49 of play and added an assist for a three-point night, lifting the Augsburg University women's hockey team to a 6-1 win over Marian University in a nonconference contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wagner scored twice off assists by Emily Ach (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS), 54 seconds into the game and at the 4:49 mark on the power play. She also assisted on the Auggies' last goal of the game, by Mackenzie Molnar (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) at the 8:46 mark of the second period.
• Augsburg dominated play throughout, outshooting the Sabres by a 51-12 mark -- including a 20-4 advantage in the first period.
• Kayla Murray (JR, Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam HS), a transfer from Adrian (Mich.), scored her first goal as an Auggie with seven seconds left in the first period, assisted by Kalli Prekker (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), who claimed her first collegiate point.
• Megan Robertson (SR, Boissevain, Manitoba/Boissevain HS) scored an unassisted goal at the 6:55 mark of the second period, followed 56 seconds later by a goal from Mikayla Jones (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS), assisted by Nikki Nightengale (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS).
• Making her second collegiate start in goal, McKenna Manalli (JR, Byron, Ill./Byron HS) had 11 saves in goal to earn her first win of the season for Augsburg.

FOR THE FOES
• Hailey Miller scored Marian's lone goal, a power-play marker from Calle Bye and Ellie Deans at the 8:12 mark of the third period.
• Lindsey Strainis had 24 saves in goal in 28 minutes of play, with Molly Gross recording 21 saves in 32 minutes of relief.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is idle next weekend, and opens MIAC play with a series against Bethel on the weekend of Nov. 10-11. The game on Friday, Nov. 10 is at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
