Women’s Hockey Begins 2022 with Dominant Victory

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In its first game since December 4th, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team opened the second half of its season with a 7-0 non-conference victory at Finlandia University (Mich.) Saturday night.
 
How it Happened
It took 14 minutes for St. Scholastica to find the net for the first time as Lisa LaRoche (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) scored to make it 1-0. Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) and Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) had the assists. Just 58 seconds later, Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) lit the lamp to make it 2-0 at the first intermission. It was Pohlkamp again on the assist.
 
CSS made it 3-0 less than two minutes into the second period as Ali Ratzloff (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Lourdes HS) scored her first goal of the season on the power-play. Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) was credited with the assist. Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) scored St. Scholastica's fourth goal and her first of the season with 12 minutes left in the period with assists from Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS). The final goal of the second period was recorded by Pohlkamp at the midway point with assists from Lizzie Northquest (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) and LaRoche.
 
The third period was Courtney Bloemke's (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) period as she made it 6-0 two minutes into the period and then added St. Scholastica's last goal of the game with three minutes remaining to make the final score 7-0.
 
Goaltending
Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) made just one save in 32 minutes of action to earn the win. Elise Lund (Esko, Minn. /Esko HS) made her collegiate debut and made eight saves.
 
Up Next
The Saints (6-4-1) return to Mars Lakeview Arena on Tuesday where they will host fifth-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls in a non-conference matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
