MEQUON, Wis. - The Bethel University women's hockey team used a pair of
Sarah Moy goals and outstanding goaltending by
Lauren Topor to take a 2-1 victory over the Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons Saturday afternoon. The sweep is the first for the Royals on the road this year and the first series sweep since the opening weekend against Aurora.
The Falcons scored first at 14:02 in the first period. Moy scored her first goal of the game on the power play at 12:57 in the second period with assists from
Kaitlyn VanTassel and
Kennedi Mitchell. Moy's second score came at 8:40 in the third period and would hold up as the game winner for the Royals.
Wendy Roberts and
Erika Geary assisted on the play. Junior goaltender
Lauren Topor made her first start of the season and stopped 25 of the 26 shots she faced from the Falcons. Bethel outshot CUW 36-26. The Falcons were 0-3 on the power play while Bethel was 1-2.
The Royals will look to carry their winning ways into their upcoming MIAC series with the College of Saint Benedict. The unusual schedule sees the Royals travel to St. Cloud, Minnesota on Thursday to take on the Blazers before finishing the series on Saturday at Bethel University Arena at 3 p.m.
