Giorgio’s Multi-Goal Performance Leads Royals to Sweep of Lake Forest

BLAINE, Minn. – With his second multi-goal performance of the year, junior forward Dylan Giorgio paced the Bethel University men's hockey team to a New Year's Day victory over Lake Forest, 3-2.

With the non-conference series sweep over the Foresters, BU improves to 8-3-1 on the year. The Royals are back on the ice Friday hosting Wisconsin-Stout at 7 p.m.

Deadlocked at two heading into the third period, Giorgio capped out a four-point weekend with his second career game winner. With 8:43 left in the game, a nice pass from Andrew Revering from the left point found Giorgio in front of the net who worked it around the Foresters netminder.

The opposition denied Bethel of a second straight shutout scoring 8:06 into the contest. Giorgio got the equalizer for Bethel 6:39 into the second. The Royals went on the man advantage after Lake Forest was whistled for hooking.

Bethel capitalized on the opportunity where Carter Wagner found Ben Doherty between the faceoff circles. Doherty dumped that off to Giorgio who went top shelf 39 seconds into the power play.

With just under six minutes to go in the second Wagner put the Royals up 2-1 firing a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle. Doherty picked up his second assist of the night and seventh of the season while Revering, a night after scoring his first collegiate goal, tallied his first career assist.

Lake Forest equalized it at 2-2 just prior to the second intermission.

Goaltender Ridge Gerads was a near brick wall once again between the pipes. He fended off two early shots in the third from the Foresters eventually picking up nine saves and forcing a goose egg up the board in the final 20 minutes for Lake Forest. Gerads finished with 30 saves.
