NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team picked up its third-straight one-goal win to start the season by holding off Trine University, 4-3, on Friday evening at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
St. Olaf (3-0-0) built a 4-1 lead at the midway point of third period before Trine (1-2-0) scored twice in the span of less than two minutes to make it a one-goal game with over six minutes remaining. The Oles held on the rest of the way to extend their perfect start to the season to three games, which marks the first time in program history St. Olaf has won its first three games of the season.

St. Olaf's lead lasted less than five minutes, however, as Kailey Mleko tied the game at 1-1 at 8:04 of the period, redirecting a shot by Natasha Strbiak past senior
Ivy Shonka in front of the net. The Oles took a lead into the first intermission when senior
Annika Patterson outraced the Trine defense to score on a mini-breakaway at 17:23.
First year
Jessica Wernli extended St. Olaf's lead to 3-1 just 24 seconds into the second period with her first-career goal, tipping a Patterson shot in from between the circles. Patterson's assist on the goal was her fifth point through the first three games of the season.
The Oles maintained their two-goal lead until senior
Emma Boyer got her first goal of the year on the power play at 9:36 of the third period. Boyer was on hand in front of the goal to tap the puck in after a rebound off a shot by first year
Grace Lankas came loose in front.
The Thunder got goals from Annabelle Scriver and Grace Hicks in the span of less than two minutes to give themselves a chance in the final minutes. Trine only generated one shot on goal over the final 6:17 after getting within a goal and could not find an opportunity to pull its goaltender down the stretch.
St. Olaf held a one-shot advantage in shots on goal in the game, getting 23 shots on net compared to 22 for Trine. Shonka made 19 saves to pick up her second win of the season, while Ryleigh Furlong also had 19 stops in the loss for the visitors. For the second game in a row, the Oles did not commit a penalty in the win.
The two teams complete their weekend series on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Olaf Ice Arena. Due to St. Olaf hosting the state cross country championship meet, fans will be unable to park in the lots surrounding Skoglund Center. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and find alternative parking on campus while being prepared to walk down to St. Olaf Ice Arena.
