Saint Benedict Snatches a Win from Women’s Hockey

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The women's hockey team played in their second matchup against the College of St. Benedict on Saturday. 

The matchup saw an even first period that finished with a 0-0 score.  In the first period, the Falcons were outshot 4-15 with junior Goalie Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) bringing in all 15 saves.

The Falcons started the scoring with a 10th-minute goal off the stick of freshman Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany).  She was assisted by senior Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.)

The Bennies went on to tie the game four minutes later and, eventually, take the lead in the 15th minute of the second period.

The Falcons scored the equalizer in the eighth minute of the third period.  Netting the goal for the Falcons was junior Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.) off assists from senior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.) and Natalie Mackrell.

The Bennies scored the game-winning goal 2:58 later

Mackrell led the Falcons in points on the matchup with two (one goal and one assist).

The Falcons were outshot on the game 15-39.

Van Hercke recorded a total of 36 saves in her 58:15 on the ice.

The Falcons return to home ice on Friday as they take on Trine.
