SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team returned to the ice for the first time since December 4th at the Superior Showdown across the bridge at Wessman Arena on Thursday and skated to a 2-2 tie with 10th-ranked Aurora University (Ill.), but fell in the shootout to the Spartans.

How it Happened
The Saints went two skaters down with five minutes to go in the opening period and the Spartans (10-2-1) took advantage scoring a minute into the 5-on-3 to make it 1-0. However, CSS then went on the power-play with three minutes remaining in the first period and tied the contest on a Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) goal to make it 1-1 at the first intermission. Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) and Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) had the assists on the goal.

Aurora regained the lead eight minutes into the second period to make it 2-1 at the second intermission.

St. Scholastica tied the contest for a second time six minutes into the third period as Ledenkov found the net for a second time to make it 2-2. Danylo Sukhonos (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Brovary Professional Lyceum (New York Aviators-USPHL)) and Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) had the assists. After 60 minutes, the score remained 2-2.

In overtime, it was all Aurora, but Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) stood tall and stopped five shots to keep the game tied at 2-2.

That meant the teams would go to shootout to determine who would advance to the championship game of the Superior Showdown. The Saints failed to convert on their two attempts, while the Spartans converted both of their first two attempts to win the shootout 2-0.

Goaltending
Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) made 28 saves for the Saints, while Josh Boyko had 20 saves for the Spartans.

Up Next
The Saints (6-4-1) will face the loser of Marian University (Wis.)/University of Wisconsin-Superior tomorrow (Friday) at 3 p.m. over at Wessman Arena.
