Auggie women open season with loss to Saints

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University rallied to take a 2-1 lead after one period, but the College of St. Scholastica scored twice in a 37-second span in the second period to retake the lead and claim a 3-2 nonconference women's hockey win on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Megan Robertson (SR, Boissevain, Manitoba/Boissevain HS) scored the first goal of the season for Augsburg at the 10:50 mark of the second period, putting home a rebound on a scramble in front following a shot by Megan Johnson (JR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS). Bridget Wagner (SO, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS) also assisted on the power-play goal.
• Wagner gave the Auggies a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal on a breakaway at the 15:37 mark of the second frame.
• Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 41-21 margin -- 13-4 in the first period and 14-4 in the second period. Johnson had six shots on-goal, while Wagner had five shots and Nikki Nightengale (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had four shots.
• Rebecca Sonnek (SR, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) had 18 saves in goal in 52 minutes of play. McKenna Manalli (JR, Byron, Ill./Byron HS) played the final eight minutes in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Emily Stegora scored twice for the Saints, collecting the first goal from Greta Nundahl and Denisa Lalikova at the 7:11 mark of the first period, and scoring the second goal from Lalikova at the 8:35 mark of the second period. Lalikova also assisted on the eventual game-winning goal, a power-play marker by Alexia Klass at the 9:12 mark of the second period.
• Lexi Thomeczek had 39 saves in goal for St. Scholastica.
