Auggie women fall in season-opener

MINNEAPOLIS -- A three-goal second period from the College of St. Scholastica gave the visitors the lead, and the Saints scored twice in the final half of the third period to claim a 5-3 victory over Augsburg University in a nonconference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kalli Prekker (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored the first goal of the season for the Auggies, going end-to-end off a pass from Elly Strunk (SR, Blooming Prairie, Minn./Blooming Prairie HS) and pushing the puck to the net at the 4:54 mark of the first period.
• St. Scholastica scored a pair of goals in a 28-second span early in the second period, but Augsburg tied the game at the 8:03 mark, as Lanie Lobdell (SR, Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley HS) fired a wrister from the slot, assisted by Brooke Leone (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Lilia Scheid (JR, Stillwater,Minn./Middleton (Wis.) HS). The assist was the first in an Auggie uniform for Scheid, a transfer from Gustavus.
• After St. Scholastica took a 3-2 lead, Augsburg tied the game at the 5:49 mark of the third period, with Kennedy Stein (FY, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) scoring her first collegiate goal on the power play. She took a feed from Payton Allen (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and shot a wrist shot to the upper right corner.
• Abby Bollig (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) started the game in goal for the Auggies, but suffered an injury in the second period and had to leave the game. Bollig had 12 saves, and Mara McClain (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), making her third collegiate appearance in goal, had 11 saves in relief.
• Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 37-28 margin.

FOR THE FOES
• Lizzie Northquest scored the eventual game-winning goal for St. Scholastica at the 10:39 mark of the third period. Kayla Kasel, Allie Bussey, Ashley Healy and Abby Pohlkamp also scored for the Saints, and Lauryn Hull had two assists.
• Lori Huseby had 34 saves in goal for St. Scholastica.

• The teams complete the nonconference series on Saturday (1/30) at 7 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.
