Falcons Finish Season with Win Over Finlandia

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team snagged a long-awaited win on Saturday when they took on the Finlandia Lions in the second game of the series.

The Falcons started the night with a goal from sophomore Jacob Shankar (Johnstown, Ont.) with assists from sophomore Spencer Milne (Edmonton, Alta.) and fellow sophomore Tyler Pang (Victoria, B.C.).

The Lions came out with three unanswered goals that spanned the first and beginning of the second periods.

The Falcons cut the deficit to one with a goal from freshman Nick Wieben (Mankato, Minn.) with another assist from Tyler Pang.

The Lions scored their third power-play goal of the night to take the 4-2 lead.

It was all Falcons the rest of the way with three unanswered goals to snag their first home win in 2022.

The first goal came from Shankar again with an assist from freshman Joshua Maine (Tecumseh, Ont.). 

The second goal came in the third period off the stick of senior Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.). He was assisted by Wieben. The game-winning goal was scored by sophomore Sean Hofstetter (Columbia, Ill.) off of a tipped pass from senior Peter Kapak (Red Deer, Alta.).

Shankar led the Falcon scoring two goals.

Sophomore Riley Morgan (Scottsdale3, Ariz.) recorded 30 saves in the outing.

The Falcons end their season 3-20-2 on the year and 2-15-1 in conference play.
