Royals Drop Pair of Weekend Non-Conference Contests

BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team closed out a weekend of non-conference action at Bethel University Arena with a 4-0 loss to Marian Saturday evening.

Bethel falls 2-6-1 on the year and returns to the ice on Dec. 6 at Hamline. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Marian broke the scoreless tie 16:32 into the first on a scrum in front of the net that slid past netminder Joe Sheppard. Sheppard finished the game with 35 saves.

After the shots rang an even 7-7 in the first, the Royals were outshot 14-12 in the second while keeping Marian off the board. After neither team scored during a 4-on-4 opportunity early in the second, Bethel had a chance to even it up going on the power play midway through. The Royals had a pair of good looks from Jory McWilliams and Michael Piehler but went into the second intermission trailing by a goal.

The Sabres gave themselves a two-goal lead 7:24 into the third. Bethel took a pair of major penalties giving Marian a chance at two power plays in which they capitalized on in the final 2:50 of the game.

Piehler and Nick Ketola each led Bethel with five shots on goal.
