Last Minute Goal Lifts W Hockey To 2-2 OT Tie

12/8/2017 6:14:00 PM

Box Score The Hamline women's hockey team came out shooting from the start of their game Friday in Duluth against St. Scholastica. By the time they were done, HU had unloaded a season high 56 shots on goal. But it took 55 minutes plus to get one goal past CSS netminder Lori Huseby. Fortunately, it took less than four minutes to get another as the Pipers settled for a 2-2 OT tie in their final game before the holiday break.

HU will take a 7-2-1 record and a four-game unbeaten streak into 2018.

But it took a concerted effort to get that far.

Despite the big edge in shots, Hamline was unable to dent the back of the net until Becca Zarembinski converted passes from Jordan Hansen and Leah Schwartzman for her fourth goal of the season at 15:38 on a power play.

A late power play sent HU goalie Annie Juergens to the bench in the final minute of play. Bre Simon finished off a three way play with Darby Dodds and Sarah Bobrowski to record her team high eighth goal of the season at 19:10 to force an extra session. Simon was the top gunner for the game with eight shots on goal.

Neither team held back in the overtime as both Juergens and Huseby were called on to make big saves.

Thus, it ended the way it began -- with two talented teams even on the scoreboard.

The Pipers are now idle until January 5, 2018 when they will face Marian at home.
