HANCOCK, MICH. – The Trine men's NCAA hockey team finished in a tie with Finlandia University with the score of 2-2.
Freshman forward Carmine Taffo (Staten Island, N.Y.) found the back of the net for the first time this season in the tenth minute of the first period to give the Thunder the early lead. They would hold on to that lead into the first intermission.
In the second, the Lions would come roaring back, scoring a goal in the fourth and 16th minutes of the period. Finlandia would take the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Both teams would be held off the board until the 13th minute of the third period when senior forward Lucas Bombardier (Pittsford, Vt.) would score his team high third goal of the season to tie the game at two. Ryan Murray and Max DiCicco would tally assists on the goal, which would be the final of the contest.
Sophomore Brett Young played the entire game in net for the Thunder. He finished the game with 27 saves, and was able to hold the Lions off the board for the entire third period and overtime to give the Thunder the tie.
Trine will next take the ice when they take on nationally-ranked Adrian College in a home contest on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m.
