CSB shuts out Finlandia to keep unbeaten streak alive

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team pushed its unbeaten streak to four games Friday night with a 6-0 shutout against Finlandia at the MAC in St. Cloud.

Five different players scored for Saint Benedict, which is now 6-4-1 overall and 3-0-1 in its last four games. Sophomore goalie Maggie Gilchrist notched the first shutout of her collegiate career, stopping all 16 shots she faced to keep the Lions (0-10) off the board.

Hannah Lynse started the scoring for CSB, and kicked off the first multi-point game of her Bennie career with the first goal of her collegiate career. She scored at the 5:49 mark of the first period – a goal that would eventually become the game winner, another first – off an assist from Bre Hess.

Myka Stave notched her third goal of the season at the 17:41 mark of the first to put CSB up 2-0 to wrap up the first 20 mintues of play. Annie Luzum and McKenna Cavanaugh got credit for the assists.

The second period was the most productive for the Bennie offense as CSB put 26 shots on net and scored three goals. Maria Wallace started the team off with her first goal of the season at the 5:51 mark of the second, and Rylan Bistodeau notched a pair of second-period goals to put her team up 5-0 after 40 minutes of play. Lily Aamodt and Grace Laudenbach notched assists on Wallace's goal. Lynse and Sophie Stoffers had a hand in Bistodeau's first goal – which came on the power play – and Annika Brodt and Emily Lemker had assists on her second goal at the 15:27 mark. Stoffers' assist was the first of her career.

After a scoreless start to the third period, junior Bria Ferns – who was playing in her first game back after studying abroad in the fall – scored her first goal of the season with just under two minutes left to play. Lynse had her second assist of the night and Maria Gaertner notched the first assist of her career.

When all was said and done, CSB outshot the Lions 56-16, including 26-6 in the second period. Five different players had five shots on net for CSB, and three more added four.

The two teams are back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, as CSB wraps up nonconference play for the season.
