Falcons journey ends in NCHA Slaats Cup mini game

LAKE FOREST, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey season ended on Saturday evening in the NCHA Slaats Cup Quarterfinals. The Foresters won the game 2-1 to force a mini game to decide the series that they won 3-1. The Falcons close the year with a 9-15-2 record.

Senior Sam Lombardi (Ancaster, Ont.) drew first blood with a power-play goal off passes from junior Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska) and sophomore Maddy Millar (Anchorage, Alaska).

The Foresters took the lead with two goals in the second period.

Senior Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ont.) closed the year with 36 saves.

Lake Forest held a 38-15 shots advantage on Saturday.

Sophomore Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.) and Sam Lombardi had three shots each.

Senior Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) won nine faceoffs.

The series was then sent to a 20-minute mini game.

Sophomore Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.) struck 2:52 into the game off an assist from junior Madi Chapman (Rogers, Minn.).

CUW was able to keep the Black and Red off the scoreboard until the 14:23 mark.

LFC struck again late at 17:59 and added an empty-net goal.

Breanna Thomson saved 14 shots in 18:42 of play.

Sarah Pearson had two of the three CUW shots.
