Blackowiak's OT goal gives Augsburg 1-0 win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jarod Blackowiak (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) scored an unassisted goal 1:55 into overtime, giving his No. 5-ranked Augsburg University men's hockey team a 1-0 nonconference win over Trine University (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 1, Trine (Ind.) 0 (OT)
LOCATION: Ed Saugestad Rink, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 10-2-0 overall, Trine 6-4-0 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With 3:05 left in overtime, Blackowiak stole a pass from a Thunder defender, walked into the slot and snapped a shot past the Trine goalie, his second career goal and second game-winner. Blackowiak has now had a goal or assist in three straight games.
• Less than 24 hours after a 42-save effort in an Auggie victory, goalie Daniil Gerasimov (JR, Moscow, Russia/State School 1944) was again outstanding, stopping all 24 shots he faced to claim his second career shutout, improving to 6-2-0 on the year. Gerasimov had 66 saves on 67 shots on the weekend.
• Augsburg outshot Trine by a 37-24 margin, including a 5-1 advantage in overtime. Tommy Carey (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) and Erik Palmqvist (FY, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet) had five shots on-goal each.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 37-14 margin this season. The Auggies' 37 goals are second-most among MIAC teams in overall statistics, while their 14 goals allowed are fewest in the league. Augsburg's 1.14 goals-allowed per-game average is second-best among all NCAA Division III teams nationally.
• Gerasimov leads all MIAC goalies in goals-against-average (1.00), save percentage (.964) and winning percentage (.750), with his GAA and save percentage both second-best in Division III nationally.

FOR THE FOES
• Brett Young had 36 saves for Trine.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is idle for the holiday break, and returns to action on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m., with a game at Wisconsin-River Falls.
