St. Thomas Men's Hockey scored twice in the game's first 5:00 en route to a 5-1 win over St. Scholastica in non-conference play Saturday night at the STA Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.
It was the season-opening game for both teams and the first competition for any St. Thomas team since last March 9.
In running their winning streak to six dating back to last February 2020, the Tommies scored on their first three power-play chances on the night with Spencer Zwiener, Luke Manning and Joey Sofo.
Sofo scored two goals and added an assist and joined Grant Loven and Luke Manning in scoring goals in their first games as Tommies. Phil Fromberger and Vincent Weis each added two assists.
Starting goalie Henry Baribeau stopped all seven shots he faced in 29:19 in net, including a breakaway attempt in period two. Jacob Berger played the last 30-plus minutes and stopped 16 of 17 shots.
The Purple play two games next weekend against Gustavus -- a Friday night non-conference game in St. Peter, and a Saturday night home clash to open the seven-game MIAC season.
