Hockey notches 3-1 win over Falcons in game two

MEQUON, Wis. - The St. Catherine Wildcat hockey team picked up a 3-1 win on Saturday evening in a non-conference match-up with Concordia University, Wisconsin.

After falling to the Falcons on Friday 2-0, St. Kate's looked like a different team in game two.

The Wildcats fired off 12 shots on goal in the first period against Concordia, as first-year Elizabeth Kubicek faced just 6 shots in 20 minutes.

Forward Emilee Anderson netted her sixth goal of her sophomore campaign assisted by senior forward Morgan Tentis to get on the board first at 6:47. After taking the lead, St. Catherine had three consecutive penalties on the Wildcats holding off the Falcon's power-play for nearly six minutes. Despite the Falcons being on the power-play, St. Catherine held them to just two shots in the second period.

Senior Brede Positer scored her first goal in nine games and third of the season assisted by senior Tori Thompson at 13:01. Just 26 seconds later, senior MacKenzie Ess scored an unassisted goal to give the Wildcats the three goal lead with just 7 minutes to play.

The three goal lead only lasted for 13 seconds as Concordia was able to score their lone goal of the game for a final score of 3-1 Wildcats.

Head coach Brad Marshall said, "What a difference 24 hours can make. We did much, much better today moving our feet and winning loose puck battles. Plus, it is nice when your leaders can get on the score sheet."

Anderson led the Wildcats with 1 goal and 7 shots. Postier added 1 goal, 6 shots and Tentis had 1 assist and 6 shots. Kubicek had 15 saves in the game.

St. Catherine will face University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday, December 14 at Drake Arena at 7:30 PM.
