ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team rolled to another lopsided win over the Aurora University Spartans Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 victory. Bethel scored once in the first period and twice each in the second and third to build a 5-0 lead before Aurora got on the board midway through the third period. After firing off 56 shots on Friday night, the Royals outdid themselves on Saturday with 63.
Freshman
Bri Stafne got the scoring started for Bethel with her first collegiate goal at 14:19 in the first period.
Sarah Moy was next up for Bethel in the second period when she stole a Spartan pass on an AU power play and sped the other way before converting the breakaway opportunity to put Bethel up 2-0.
Wendy Roberts scored the third goal, her third of the series, late in the second period. Midway through the third
Kirsten Olson converted a Royals power play to stretch the lead to 4-0. Stafne closed the scoring for Bethel with her second goal of the game at 12:11 in the third period. Stafne registered three assists in Friday's game to go along with her two goals Saturday.
Kaitlyn VanTassel tallied two assists in the game, adding to the three goals and one assist from Friday for a team leading six points in the first two games.
Maggie Straka made 10 saves in net to pick up the win while
Lauren Topor also saw time in net, making one save.
The Royals will face a tough test next weekend with the No. 4 ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The UWRF Falcons will visit Bethel University Arena on Friday night with Bethel traveling to River Falls on Saturday.
