SJU Hockey Plays No. 14 Marian to 1-1 Tie

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's and No. 14 Marian (Wis.) played to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (HBNHC) in St. Cloud.

Junior forward Brady Heppner (Crookston, Minn.) scored the equalizer for SJU (5-3-2, 3-1-0 MIAC) with a one-timer off the offensive-faceoff win from classmate Kyle Wagner (St. Francis, Minn.) 2:27 into the second period. The tally was his fourth of the season.

Nick Monfils took advantage of an SJU turnover in the defensive end to give the Sabres (5-2-1, 4-0-0 NCHA) a 1-0 lead 2:24 into the game.

Sophomore goaltender Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made 21 saves in the draw.

Marian (0-5) and SJU (0-3) combined to go 0-for-8 on the power play. The Johnnies held a slight edge in shots, 24-22.

The two teams played to a 3-3 tie last Nov. 24 (2017) in Fond du Lac, Wis.

The Johnnies return to conference play with a pair of home games against Saint Mary's next weekend at the HBNHC. SJU hosts the Cardinals at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, followed by a 2 p.m. puck-drop Saturday, Dec. 1.
