Women’s Hockey slashes the Sabres on the power play

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team was propelled to its first victory of the year by the power play on Thursday night. The Falcons walked away with a 4-3 victory, with four power-play goals, tying the program record.

Junior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.) started the scored on the power play off a rebound from junior Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.).

Sarah Pearson struck again two minutes later on the power play once again from Sarah Tretina. The two power-play goals ties the program record.

The Falcons added another goal on the power play to close the frst period from junior Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.).

The three power-play goals in the first period is a program record.

The Sabers got on the scoreboard on a five on three power play.

Junior Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.) started the third period with a power-play goal from sophomore Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.)

The Sabres scored two goals to cut into the lead, but the Falcons held on.

Sophomore Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) collected 22 saves in the victory. CUW held a 49-25 shots advantage on Thursday.

Sarah Tretina had 16 shots in the game.

CUW won 32 of the 54 faceoffs, with junior Emily Reimche winning 19.

CUW will go for the series sweep on Friday night at Marian.
